Santa Barbara 25 - Why no CC & Sophia tributes?

It's not like I hate them, or rather, hated them during Santa Barbara's run. In fact, I was totally on board when they were reunited after Sophia's long absence. But then a pattern emerged - CC would get too controlling towards Sophia and she would go out and sleep with someone else. CC would kick her out of the house... then talk her into coming back. Then, it would start all over again. Over and over.

Yes, soaps tend to allow their characters to make the same stupid mistakes over and over again, but CC and Sophia were special cases. They were aware of the consequences of this pattern - hell, Sophia may have gotten pregnant twice by Lionel because she had to get back at CC - and yet, when they were, allegedly, older and wiser, they kept doing this to each other. This was stupid and mean-spirited, therefore I didn't want to include this in my tribute.

Plus, I have serious doubts that CC and Sophia ever truly loved each other. For CC, I think that this was about getting the seemingly unattainable. And Sophia wanted security, given that her acting career leveled off. And factoring Lionel Lockridge... again, I don't think he ever really wanted Sophia. Like CC, it was about getting the unattainable, but with the added bonus of giving CC a facial everytime he dug out CC's wife. Again, all of this was unnecessary, especially when you think of the fact that this happened while Sophia and Augusta were having their children. The added dimension of the children, again, spells utter selfishness on CC, Sophia and Lionel's part.

Meanwhile, Lionel is chasing Sophia while Augusta languished at home... are you kidding me? Not taking anything from Sophia but Augusta was way sexier and infinitely more fascinating. And while Augusta wasn't a perfect mother, she was a present mother, unlike Sophia, who was separated from her children as a consequence of the drama she created.

CC and Sophia were the only Santa Barbara couple whose reverence was affected by the passage of time. I can't stand contrived drama, whether it's at the hands of overly ambitious actresses, tabloid interns and editors, or chicks with princess complexes. Therefore, I can't find anything romantic or redeeming about CC and Sophia's tug of war.

Both of them should have let go of the rope.
