In families where there is at least parent that is a tyrant, there will always be one offspring that will test the tyrant's perception of himself and his beliefs. CC was the tyrant; Mason was that child.
A child from a previous marriage, Mason was deemed the black sheep because he didn't sprang from Sophia's loins. Always placed on a pedestal, Sophia's progeny were always treated with more reverence and love than Mason. Keenly intelligent, perceptive and sardonically witty, Mason felt apart from the family versus being a part of the family. He played things close to the vest until the moment he could obliterate his target... assuming that the target wasn't CC.
There many battles between CC and Mason - most of which stemmed from CC's glaring favoritism towards his long-dead namesake, Channing II. Then Mason took it to the junk by bedding CC's wife, Gina. Nevermind that CC's only reason for marrying Gina was to gain an advantage for getting Brandon back, Mason pulling a Lionel Lockridge and making CC a cuckold was the moment that their feud reached another level. But like Gina, Mason craved CC's attention, love and acceptance - something his other siblings never really had to fight for.
Here is a clip showing Mason being pulled in two directions by his parents.
Lane Davies portrayed Mason with a broody, aristocratic air, which made him the definitive face of Santa Barbara.
There will be more posts about Mason - I guarantee that.
