Santa Barbara 25 - The Lockridges

Sadly, there aren't many Lockridge-themed videos on You Tube - probably, the consequence of SB practically phasing out the whole family.

At any rate, a tribute to Santa Barbara would be incomplete without acknowledging Lionel and Augusta Lockridge. The slightly less rich counterparts to the Capwells, the Lockridges provided much of the laughs during Santa Barbara's early years. Nicholas Coster's Lionel, the adventurer/part-time archeologist/part-time film producer, was a big-hearted man who had a wandering pecker. Louise Sorel's Augusta was a desperate housewife who received regular pruning from hulking gardeners/groundskeepers while Lionel was on his expeditions/escapades. But whenever he came home, Lionel and Augusta would tussle and trade barbs... usually in the comfort of a bed and on certain occasions, a champagne-filled bathtub.

Lionel and Augusta were the first truly passionate couple; unfortunately, the passion would bubble over, resulting in Lionel fleeing to the waiting arms of women like Sophia Capwell, and Augusta would seethe and rant at the newly minted betrayal. But eventually, they would find themselves tussling and trading barbs... in bed YET again. Here is an example of their tumultuous relationship:

Their children, Laken and Warren, unfortunately, only seemed to exist for the purpose of complicating the Capwells' lives - Laken was Ted's love interest and Warren was his friend/rival. They probably had more substantial storylines, but for the life of me, I can't remember any one of them, except for the years when Jack Wagner took over the Warren part.

However, while Laken and Warren didn't make a sustaining impression on me, Dame Judith Anderson's Minx, certainly did. The matriarch of the Lockridge family, she tried to keep things, and her family, in order, with the full recognition that this task would be an uphill battle. She knew were the bodies were buried, but in this clip, she didn't want to rely on the passage of time or CC's propensity for strokes to see CC prone. Here's a clip of CC getting a little too smug for his own good and Minx gave him a bit of a comeuppance.
