"CBS Early Show is sponsored by"... what?!!!

Was listening to the Early Show this morning; nearly spat out my double chocolate muffin when I heard that the show was being sponsored by 'He's Just Not that Into You'.

Really?

Because the majority of the time, there are no announcements about what company is sponsoring a particular portion of the show. But today, you couldn't escape He's Just Not That Into You, whether it was the sponsor announcement or the actual commercial, unless you changed the station. Which I did.

HJNTIY is a Drew Barrymore production, but this has Jennifer Aniston written all over it. More than anything, CBS's Early Show is ground zero for Aniston ass-licking, whether it's Maggie Rodriguez dragging anything Aniston-related into her banal banter or Harry Smith still lamenting over his recent on-camera handjob administered by her. The Early Show served her well today, but it is still the Early Show, which is last place in the ratings. Today and GMA are powerhouses; therefore there aren't any Brangelina blackouts which would placate Aniston's camp.

Make no mistake; I fully recognize that Tariji P. Henson's appearance as a guest co-host in April was for the purpose of promoting Benjamin Button's DVD release, but at least Tariji anted up more on her end of the transaction. She was bubbly, funny, well-prepared, and professional; in addition, she offered some firsthand accounts of Brad and Angelina's relationship, which was positive and exceedingly glowing. Tariji couldn't be wooden if Gepetto fashioned her out of mahogany, whereas no amount of ass-licking, shallow superlatives and vague costar testimonials can make Aniston interesting.

This extends to At The Movie's Ben Mankowitz too; your job is to tell people whether a movie is worth seeing, not selling people on Aniston's yet to be determined acting abilities. That's probably why your dumb @$$ didn't pick up on the subtleties of Benjamin Button - you're too damn busy positioning yourself as Hollywood's prophet of acting talent.
