I was very foolish. Foolish enough to expect something resembling the legacy of the Bell dynasty. Maybe I was hoping that the Steffy-Rick affair would bear some resemblance to the clandestine Deacon-Brooke affair from the early 2000s. I hated this tryst with a passion, but looked forward to Stephanie finding out about it (because Brooke was sloppy like that) and Stephanie putting her boot in, on Bridget's behalf, as well as her own. Back then, the Bold and Beautiful writers knew how to craft a tight story and they had Jennifer Finnigan (Bridget) to bring the resolution home, with Susan Flannery (Stephanie), as always, laying excellent groundwork for an emotional payoff. Damn... I wish I would've recorded those episodes. Actually, I wish the writers would re-watch those episodes in order to get a clue about how to handle this Steffy-Rick storyline.
Imagine my disgust at Steffy Forrester wagging her finger at her brother, Thomas, after she found out about the house fire and the car bomb. Yes, Thomas' actions were extreme and beyond the pale, but they were understandable. Whereas, mere weeks ago, Steffy romanticized Rick's corporate espionage as a demonstration of how much he truly loved her. Really, Steffy? You understood that, but you wanted to rip Thomas a new one after he reacted to Rick's initial attempted seduction of Phoebe, his successful seduction of Taylor, his successful attempt at convincing Taylor to give up custody of Jack to Brooke, his reckless driving which resulted in Phoebe's death, and now, his successful procurement of your 'heart' (and BTW, B & B writers, way to ignore the fact that Rick also stole Thomas' first love, that toothy teen-aged designer girl... I can't remember her name, but Lorenzo Lamas portrayed her father)? Way to exhibit the intellect of a bag of wet hammers, Steffy, and way to demonstrate your loyalty to your family. And way to go, trying to justify ratting out Thomas when you sat on the info regarding Rick and Jackie M.
Along the same lines, way to diminish the twin bond, B & B. Sure, you used it in the form of Steffy 'sensing' that something happened to Phoebe, but where did it go? Did it drift away, along with Phoebe's spirit. Being a fraternal twin, it is pretty eerie how many commonalities I share with my sister. And while we both like the same qualities in men, WE HAVE NEVER LIKED THE SAME MEN!!! It's called loyalty. Maybe if we applied a cute saying to it like 'Chicks before pricks!', then maybe Steffy wouldn't have landed in bed with Rick. It's inconceivable and ridiculous, and unfortunately, the actress who portray Steffy isn't good enough to pull it off and whomever is responsible for Rick's dialogue is making it impossible to see how Steffy could ever lock lips with that potty-mouthed prick. How ironic is it that the prick behavior that Kyle Lowder is adept at portraying was the reason why I didn't record the Deacon-Brooke-Bridget storyline? Being a hell-raising Brady Black is miles-ahead of being an undeserving, self-pitying, raving douchebag Rick Forrester.
But back to Steffy... I knew that B & B was going to take Steffy and Rick in this direction, but it wouldn't have killed the writers to 'tweek' some things. For example, why not make Steffy more like her namesake, Stephanie. Yes, Stephanie was head over heals in love with Eric, but Stephanie was also fiercely loyal to her family. And while I can't stand Eric's weakness, he does bring something to the table, in terms of the business and to the family. Why not have Steffy hook-up with Rick for the soul purpose of destroying his soul? Why not have her lose her virginity for revenge? Why not have Steffy be successful in an enterprise that has always eluded Stephanie: completely and irreparably destroying a Logan? Why the hell not!
Or if the writers opted to go down the icky trail, why not have the house fire and car bomb be the result of Phoebe? While I personally suspect that the prince who 'saved' Taylor may have Phoebe on life support somewhere, why not have an angry otherworld Phoebe reeking havoc on the person who clearly still has a vendetta against her survivors? And even better, why not have an angry otherworld Phoebe let her presence be known whenever her insipid sister attempts to say that Phoebe would be on board with this romance? Yes, it's way too much of a 'Passions' route, but I am sick of people using their dead loved ones as an alibi for being skanky. And while the dead may have better things to do, I would think that some would be down with this.
And that's what Steffy is... a big dumb skank. She doesn't deserve protection from her family or support from them when Rick does break her heart. Because he will... and hopefully with the help of Amber, since she was the only person who consistently made Rick's life a nightmare.
Fingers crossed!!
And please... keep Stephanie in the mix. Stephanie and Rick's fights are the only bright spot of this icky storyline.
