Are you quaking in your boots, Heigl?

Late last week, Katherine Heigl indicated that she's willing to stay on Grey's Anatomy, if Rhimes was willing to have her. I have to wonder whether this change of heart has something to do with Isiaih Washington's recent financial troubles after loosing the Grey's crutch. Or, maybe it has something to do with 'America's Sweetheart' Julia Roberts slipping box office cache with her recent offering, Duplicity. I have mentioned before that I find Julia Roberts to be cold, smug and hypocritical, but even I can concede that she had many years of goodwill and support from her large fan base; Katherine Heigl doesn't have that.

Sure, she may have won points with some for her 'support' of T.R. Knight when the Washington homophobic ugliness was brought to light. But, there is no question that Heigl profited from it with the abyssmal, chemistry-free storyline between Izzie and George. This storyline, along with the undeserved success of 27 Dresses probably made Heigl feel like the next Jennifer Aniston, and since being the next Jennifer Aniston isn't all that appealing, given that the crux of her success was due to being perceived as the dumped, despite being the one who filed for divorce, Heigl may have decided that being the heir apparent to Julia Roberts was more appetizing.

Roberts will likely rebound because of the goodwill, but Heigl has sufficient reason to worry. For me, her support of Knight was self-serving; maybe some are beginning to see that. Heigl doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to on-set conduct. Heigl also has the habit of shooting herself in the foot when it comes to collegues in positions of power. She slammed the Apatow crew who has a proven record of branching out and creating and executing successful projects beyond Apatow's reach. And, of course, her backhand to the Grey's crew because she and Knight failed to generate heat in their storyline. And, of course, her tendency to take movie roles where she portrays cold, shrill, uptight women opposite top drawer men's men, specifically, her upcoming movie with Gerard Butler. It's true that actors like Clive Owen and Gerard Butler have a choice to not participate in 'romantic' comedies that pair them with shrewish women, but Apatow and the Freaks and Geeks alum crowd don't seem to be interested in huge stars, or in Owen and Butler's case, stars on the cusp.

And surprisingly, the Apatow crew and many others are making some of the best romantic comedies in years, which don't showcase the glacial woman. The Frat Pack doesn't seem to exist anymore and it's doubtful that they would make it less frat and more sorority, just for Heigl. Besides, Christine Taylor seems to be their actress of choice, and even that's sporadic.

Katherine Heigl could be out of a job already.
