While Kelly was deserving of multiple threads, there are a lack of stand out Kelly clips.
Robin Wright's Kelly was the supposed ingenue, although her intelligence, determination, and grit upped fans' expectations. Tragedy seemed to follow Kelly and with the exception of a brief stint in a mental institution, Kelly pressed on, with a recognition that the bad times can and should be put behind. There was never a whiff of a pity party on her.
Robin Wright may have been responsible for my patience for soap blondes. Invariably, soap blondes like Brooke, Amber, Belle, Jessica, Babe, and dozens of others find themselves in trickbags of their own making and usually, dudes have to swoop in and get them out of it. This, supposedly, is the process intended to convince the audience that these characters were worthy of viewers' attention and affection - for me, it wasn't.
Kelly never looked for trouble - she always sought peace and happiness. It didn't happen easily, but when it did, it was all too fleeting. But Kelly survived and not in a Scarlett O'Hara self-aggrandizing way. She just survived, period.
Here are some clips during the first year of Santa Barbara, where she was front and center for the majority of the show's drama and romance. The first year centered on Joe Perkins' release from prison and his quest to prove his innocence and win back Kelly's love. Guided by loyalty and family, Kelly didn't make Joe's quest easy.
Robin Wright's departure was a blow to the show and eventually, Carrington Garland recaptured some of the quintessential Kelly qualities that fans enjoyed, but the brief reprieve didn't last long. The casting directors shifted their priorities, resulting in the disasterous casting of veteran soap actress Eileen Davidson. Too haughty, harsh and hardened, Kelly ceased to be Kelly - Kelly was just Ashley Abbott living with the Capwells. They should've stuck with finding talented, relative unknowns.
